Our initials – LOC – are an acronym of Little Owl Candles.
Last summer a gnarly old tree in our garden blew down and there amongst the piles of rotting wood and broken branches lay four baby Little Owls looking very dazed and confused. We gathered them up and quickly found the best place where they could be looked after. Folly Wildlife Rescue Centre, near Tunbridge Wells were happy to take them in. On arrival they were weighed and put into a warm incubator for 48 hours. The vet thought they were about 4 weeks old.
The Rescue Centre kindly looked after them for four months until they were ready to be released back into the wild. Sadly, two died but the other two, thrived and quickly grew. When they were ready to leave the centre, they were brought back to our house in Kent and released into the garden. It was magical to see them stretch their wings and fly away. One of the owls has settled in a nearby yew tree and we hear the calls almost daily.
When we were deciding on a name for our business, we wanted to stay close to the natural world around us, the plants and flowers that bloom in our garden and the animals that thrive in the open fields and woods of the North Downs.
Welcome to LOC Creative – a journey inspired by four little owls.
